ABOUT ME

Katherine WiessnerHello, I’m Katherine Wiessner!
I am a teacher at heart and have a love for music. I have a passion to help others develop their talents in voice and piano using their own unique abilities. I travel to and teach students in their homes, schools, offices, churches, etc.  Playing hard, working harder = having more FUN!

BACKGROUND:
My Austrian father met my mother during the Vietnam War in her native home of Thailand. I was born in New York where I lived for the first two years of my life. Dad was in the Air Force, so we moved every 4 years. I learned to walk, read, and sing in Cambridgeshire, England, UK.  I quickly traded the British accent for the Southern drawl when we moved to Sumter, SC. We then moved to Tampa, FL – one of smelliest cities I have ever lived thanks to the Tampa Bay! A quick stay-over in Atlanta, and then I was off to college!

I sang most of my nursery rhymes with a British accent as evidenced by a CASSETTE TAPE dad has hidden away in the vault. I sang in church children’s choirs. My favorite singing experiences occurred with my “Bestie”, Sandra Thompson-Haag, while living in Tampa. We used to record ourselves singing songs from The Parent Trap, Annie, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, and more! I even used to act out “A Whole New World” from Aladdin; of course my twin daybed was my magic carpet! I sang solos in school plays and in church. I also sang a duet with another “Bestie”, Casey Boers, at my High School graduation. Singing…laughing…I am usually heard BEFORE I am seen!

EDUCATION:
I started as a Nursing Student at Pensacola Christian College. In my third or fourth semester, I decided to double major in Nursing and Music – big mistake. Long story short, I graduated in 2001 with a B.A. in Music Performance. I finished my M.S. in 2003 in Music Education.

PERFORMANCES:
I Am the Way starring Jerome Hines
Gilbert & Sullivan’s The Mikado
Gilbert & Sullivan’s The Pirates of Penzance
The Impresario
Amahl and the Night Visitors
Televised through the Campus Church
Beacon Baptist Church, Raleigh, NC

GOALS:
1. To perform at Raleigh Little Theater. I currently volunteer behind the scenes!
2. To play my violin again.
3. To learn to play the guitar.
4. To “infect” others with a passion for music!
